The story
behind COREVA™

Why did we create COREVA™?

Why did we create COREVA™?

The fashion industry has an overconsumption and overproduction problem. Every year, billions of garments are made. At the same time, we’re making more clothes, and people are wearing them far less. In fact, the number of times a piece of clothing is worn has gone down by 36% over the past 15 years despite production doubling (Changing Markets Foundation). Eventually, most of the clothes end up either being burned or thrown away in landfills. At the same time, synthetic materials made from fossil fuels have become commonplace within the industry due to their low cost. Today, they make up 69% of all the fabrics used, and by 2030, it’s expected to rise to 75% (Ellen MacArthur Foundation). When these synthetic clothes are discarded, they can create pollution and release toxic substances into the environment.

COREVA™: our solution

COREVA™ is a real alternative to synthetic fibers. This unique technology allowed us to create the first compostable stretch denim in the world. In fact, lab tests prove that within months COREVA™ can effectively become compost in industrial compost conditions – disintegrating and, at the same time, without creating eco-toxicity. And this is only the beginning. We aim to engineer a regenerative denim fabric whose components are fully recyclable and compostable so that they can be easily transformed into new denim fabric. Our goal is to offer the fashion industry an innovative solution to combat waste.

COREVA™: it all began with an intuition

While in the local butcher shop in Milan, Alberto Candiani noticed, behind the counter, a salami wrapped with a curious elasticized string. When he discovered that it was entirely natural, he asked himself: “Would this work to make denim?” Five years and thousands of hours of research later, the COREVA™ technology was born.
