Nowadays, billions of garments are manufactured every year, and many of them are worn only a couple of times before being thrown out. Moreover, 71% of these garments are made with synthetic materials derived from fossil fuel, not only increasing pollution while they're being manufactured but also increasing the release of toxic substances in the environment when they're discarded.
COREVA™ is the only real alternative to synthetic fibres – a unique technology that allowed us to create the first compostable jeans in the world. In fact, lab tests prove that within months these denim jeans not only biodegrade but actually become compost, fertilising the soil. And this is only the beginning of our journey towards a completely regenerative denim fabric, whose components can be recycled and transformed into new denim fabric. Towards a world where discarded garments will have a positive impact on our planet.
While in the local butcher shop in Milan, Alberto Candiani noticed, behind the counter, a salami wrapped with a curious elasticized string. When he discovered that it was entirely natural, he asked himself, “Would this work to make denim?” Five years and thousands of hours of research later, the COREVA™ technology was born.
Dream: A vision for the future of denim.
Development: Transforming intuition into innovation.
Sustainability: More than a fabric, circularity realised.
Proving compostabilityFind out in detail
COREVA™ has undergone tests to assess its biodegradability, disintegration and ecotoxicity. These tests when put together determine compostability. The tests were conducted at Innovhub, in compliance with EU standard EN 13432. This is the standard recognised by certifications such as Ok Compost although, at this time, they do not certify fabrics. Therefore, since there is not yet a dedicated certification process for compostable fabric, Innovhub selected the closest material category possible: packaging.
Here are the EN 13432 criteria that must be met in order to pass the compostability test:
Made to last
The characteristics of COREVA ™ do not change over time. Even after years of use, you will always find the beauty, elasticity and softness you expect from quality jeans. When it comes to denim, we don't compromise.
COREVA ™ technology is truly circular. Raw materials become fabric, which, when it reaches its end of life, can return to nature without impacting the ecosystem, turning into compost and serving as a fertilizer for new raw materials.
Unlike conventional stretch fabrics, which owe their elasticity to elastane, a synthetic fossil fuel based material, COREVA ™ does not release microplastics throughout its life cycle.
