Our 2022 Sustainability Report is now available! It describes initiatives and activities carried out during the last calendar year, which, despite all the challenges, was full of achievements, milestones, and progress. Below are some of the most significant.
Energy efficiency and emissions reduction
Energy efficiency is a relevant topic for both internal and external stakeholders. It encompasses the overall energy consumption, in which efficient usage and a shift to renewable sources to address climate change and minimize environmental impact are the priorities. Upstream and downstream activities are also considered.
Thanks to our efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, between 2020 and 2022, we reduced energy consumption by 25% per ton of fabric produced and cut emissions by almost 30%.
Responsible sourcing and supply chain transparency
In 2022, we also deepened our commitment to responsible sourcing. We can make better-informed sourcing decisions based on real data if we have greater visibility into our supply chain. The first step in identifying and addressing environmental and social risks within the supply chain is, indeed, understanding the origin of raw materials. Moreover, transparency helps build trust with our clients and all their customers and stakeholders, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
We surveyed 211 suppliers throughout the year, evaluating safety, environmental, social, and chemical practices. Now, every supplier signs our Code of Conduct, and chemical suppliers must adhere to both ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals)'s MRSL (Manufacturing Restricted Substances List) and Levi’s® RSL (Restricted Substances List).
Diverse workforce
From a socially responsible perspective, we improved and expanded our efforts to have a meaningful impact within the organization, the broader community, and industry.
One of the most significant 2022 outcomes was the number of women employed (299), surpassing that of men (291), which represents a substantial stride towards fostering a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
RINA certification
Finally, we were awarded RINA’s Best4: Business Excellence Sustainable Task certification, recognizing our comprehensive management system encompassing quality, environment, safety, and social responsibility.
