Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) awarded Candiani Denim with The Groundbreaker Award for the COREVA™ technology! We are honored to receive this award, assigned to projects that transform industries and improve people’s lives, which is particularly meaningful for us this year since we have just launched the brand Coreva Design.

What are the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards and The Groundbreaker Award?

The CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2023 ceremony, hosted by Sabrina Impacciatore, occurred on Sunday, September 24th, during Milan Fashion Week, at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and was organized with the support of the United Nations Ethical Fashion Initiative, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and Comune di Milano. CNMI annually awards those committed to environmentally and socially sustainable and circular fashion. Many renowned brands have taken part in 2023 or previous editions, such as Gucci, Dolce&Gabbana, Valentino, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Loro Piana.

Who was awarded the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2023?

Ten awards were given by an international committee with eleven members, including Carlo Capasa, President of CNMI:

The Groundbreaker Award is assigned to new ideas, technologies, or products representing a significant advancement. As CNMI explains, they often involve a new way of thinking or approaching an issue or the unique and innovative combination of existing solutions. Groundbreaking innovations can change industries, create new markets or opportunities for growth and development, and improve people’s lives.

COREVA™ “proves the all-Italian ability to inject creativity everywhere”

We are humbled to get such a meaningful acknowledgment, especially a few days after launching Coreva Design. This brand proves that our patent COREVA™ is a scalable technology to manufacture circular stretch denim collections. Moreover, we want to thank Sistema Moda Italia and its Sustainability Vice-President, Andrea Crespi, for inviting us to participate in these awards.

As Alberto Candiani, President of Candiani Denim, said during his acceptance speech, “we, Candiani, have been innovating denim for four generations until COREVA™, a bio-based technology for a durable and compostable material, which has also become a circular brand, Coreva Design. It is an Italian specialty to inject creativity everywhere, even into the laws of physics and chemistry”.

We believe that as well as Coreva Design, the CNMI award is a further important step forward to increase awareness about the COREVA™ technology, the only real alternative to petrol-based, polluting stretch yarns in the denim industry, on both B2B and B2C levels. We trust a future that is both regenerated and regenerative. From the first to the last step, our goal is to make 100% compostable denim with a positive impact at every stage of its life cycle, and COREVA™ is undoubtedly pivotal in this vision.

Gucci was awarded The Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for Circular Economy for a project using our post-consumer recycled denim

We are also proud Gucci received The Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for Circular Economy for its Denim Project, which uses our PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) fabrics. We developed the PCR program in collaboration with Humana People to People Italia, which collects old, wrecked jeans, and Filatura Astro, which brings them back to the fiber stage and respins them into new yarns.

Thanks to our collaboration with the Spanish farm Algosur, we blend PCR fibers with our exclusive Blue Seed cotton to create denim with superior physical resistance and durability, core components of circular fashion. Blue Seed cotton allows for efficient compensation of the weaker PCR fibers and, hence, for denim fabrics with an above-average amount of post-consumer recycled fibers.

Therefore, the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2023 recognized the importance of two of our most innovative products, COREVA™ and PCR, which represent two of the best circular economy practices, i.e., recycling and using materials with a positive environmental impact at the end of their life to enter a never-ending cycle.
