A carbon footprint measures an industry’s impact on the environment while producing, transporting, and selling its products. The carbon footprint is directly proportional to climate change, so minimizing it is increasingly important. At Candiani Denim, we collaborate with companies from our area, reducing our fabrics’ environmental impact.

GRAPHITO was born from the partnership with Directa Plus

Directa Plus is one of the largest producers and suppliers of graphene-based products for consumer and industrial markets. Their products are identified by the brand G+® Graphene Plus and are chemical-free, sustainably manufactured, and certified as safe for users. G+® has applications in five industries: smart textiles, environmental solutions, elastomers, composite materials, and next-generation batteries.

Directa Plus has a unique and proven process protected by 81 patents to make graphene nanoplates. Their production facility is located in Lomazzo, close to Como, about 50 km from our headquarters.

Our partnership with Directa Plus gave birth to GRAPHITO. GRAPHITO combines two patented technologies, Directa Plus’ G+® and our Kitotex®, which create one-of-a-kind denim. Its antibacterial and antiviral properties keep jeans cleaner for a longer time, so they can be worn a much higher number of times than the 2.5 European average (according to Levi Strauss & Co Life Cycle Assessment 2015) before washing them. Moreover, its thermoregulatory action increases thermal comfort and allows it to be worn in any season.

We produce post-consumer recycled denim with Humana People to People Italia and Filatura Astro

Humana People to People Italia was born in 1998 and is part of the Federation Humana People to People, working in 25 countries. It is an independent humanitarian organization for international cooperation and finances and fulfills projects in the world’s southern regions to support people to build their own and better future. Moreover, it commits to resell, donate, and recycle used garments collected in about 5,000 containers spread over 1,200 Italian municipalities.

Filatura Astro was born in 1956 to make regenerated colored yarns and carries out all the manufacturing stages, from tearing to spinning, using the most progressive technologies. The company reuses and recycles pre-dyed cotton and wool scraps, sorting them by color. Filatura Astro is Global Recycle Standard and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified.

With Humana People to People Italia and Filatura Astro, we created our PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) program, in which old, wrecked denim garments are collected, pre-processed, and prepared by Humana People to People Italia and then shredded and spun by Filatura Astro. Everything happens in only 60 km and is fully traceable. Finished fabrics contain up to 26% of PCR fibers and are produced in our factory in Robecchetto con Induno.

Ten Italian partners made Candiani Custom possible

Candiani Custom, the first urban micro-factory to produce custom jeans, was created thanks to ten renowned partners, located in only 238 km: Manifattura Italiana Cucirini, Tonello, Nearchimica, FKgroup, Cervotessile, Riri Group, Okinawa Operations, Rotondi Group, Cadica Group, and SIP Italy Sewing.

The proximity between where a garment is produced and sold is necessary to minimize its carbon footprint. Having all the companies making the technologies and materials used at Candiani Custom close allows us to contain the carbon footprint of our custom jeans.
