The fusion of Italian craftsmanship and sustainable denim

The Blue Ranch collaboration between Candiani Denim and My Style Bags was born from our shared values. We are deeply connected to our roots, tradition, and Italian craftsmanship, which serve as the foundation for the excellence and quality associated with made-in-Italy products worldwide. At the same time, we embrace innovation and look toward the future to foster sustainable fashion. Furthermore, My Style Bags focuses on customizing its products to offer clients a unique and tailored experience, similar to what we provide in our Candiani Custom micro-factory.

My Style Bags was established in 2008 by Lorenza Bellora, who drew on her 30 years of experience in her family’s textile company. This Milanese brand is renowned for its distinctive selection of bags, duffel bags, and travel accessories, all crafted from high-quality materials with a strong emphasis on detail and the potential for customization.

The company operates several plants in Cardano al Campo, near Varese, allowing them to oversee every step of the manufacturing process. This includes creative development, fabric selection and production, and the manufacturing and shipping of bags and products. Our denim fabrics are also produced in Italy, with our manufacturing facilities located in Robecchetto con Induno, which is near Milan and only about 20 kilometers from Cardano al Campo. This proximity ensures a short and efficient supply chain.

My Style Bags has crafted two duffel bags and two beauty cases using our denim, which are available in medium and light washes. The Blue Ranch Ltd Denim Edition takes inspiration from traditional denim and Western styles, which is evident in both the name and the aesthetic of the products. The denim duffel bags, in particular, feature classic flat pockets adorned with nacre buttons, reminiscent of denim shirts from the Wild West. The addition of brown leather inserts further enhances the heritage feel of the fabrics.

Features of the exclusive denim duffel bags

We selected a rigid, 100% cotton, indigo-dyed denim fabric for My Style Bags’ duffel bags and beauty cases. This fabric is one of our signature products, featuring a unique warp designed by Gianluigi Candiani, which gives the denim an authentic, premium, and refined aesthetic. The fabric’s quality is achieved through a ring-spinning process that creates a characteristic irregular appearance and produces soft, durable, high-quality yarns. Although ring spinning is becoming rare in the industry—replaced largely by the faster and cheaper open-end spinning system, which results in lower-quality fabrics—we believe that the craftsmanship of ring spinning is worth preserving.

Furthermore, this fabric is made from European, regenagri®-certified regenerative cotton, which contributes to a short supply chain and ensures that the denim fabric is 100% made in Europe right from the cultivation of its raw materials. Short supply chains are easier to trace and, as a result, offer greater transparency due to reduced distances and fewer intermediaries. One of their main advantages is the significant reduction in transportation emissions—the fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than the combined emissions from maritime shipping and international flights.

Aside from its origin, regenerative cotton cultivation prioritizes soil health, which is essential for mitigating climate change. Healthy land effectively stores CO2 underground and supports the cycles of hydrogen, carbon, and nutrients. While there is no universal definition for regenerative agriculture, as it varies according to the specific needs of each ecosystem, some common techniques include using cover crops to protect and enrich the soil, implementing crop rotation to maintain or improve soil fertility, and reducing or minimizing tillage to avoid harming microorganisms while mechanically disturbing the soil.

Finally, the fabric used for our premium denim bags is treated with Kitotex®, which eliminates the use of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) in the denim dyeing process. PVA is a petroleum-based plastic polymer found in many everyday products, ranging from food packaging to dishwasher and laundry pods. In the textile industry, PVA is typically used as a sizing agent after fabrics have been dyed. While PVA can dissolve in water and biodegrade, this happens only under highly specific conditions that are not commonly met by current treatment facilities. According to a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, approximately 75% of PVA remains in the environment even after it dissolves in laundries and washing machines. As a result, each U.S. citizen is estimated to ingest between 0.101 and 0.549 grams of PVA daily.

Our patented Kitotex® technology allows us to replace PVA with chitosan, a non-toxic and biodegradable material derived from chitin, the second most common natural polymer in the world after cellulose. We exclusively use fungal chitosan sourced from Aspergillus niger. Chitosan has applications in various industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and biotechnology, due to its binding and film-forming properties. In the denim industry, chitosan offers additional sustainable advantages beyond its environmental benefits. It helps remove pollutants and heavy materials from wastewater, breaks down organic matter in sewage, acts as a coagulant to facilitate the removal of flocculating particles, and operates effectively at lower temperatures than conventional agents, which reduces CO2 emissions. Furthermore, it imparts bacteriostatic properties to the products and enhances color saturation, thus improving the aesthetic quality of the fabrics.

Where to purchase the limited-edition collection

The Blue Ranch collection is available on My Style Bags’ website, in all its mono-brand stores, and in our store Candiani Corner at Piazza Mentana 3 in Milan. This limited edition can be customized with classic embroideries of your name or initials, as proposed by the Milanese brand. Alternatively, products purchased from our store can be personalized with a leather patch featuring the collaboration logo and your initials.

How to style your denim duffel for any occasion

If you’re curious about how to style denim accessories, it’s important to note that they are not a new trend. Denim accessories emerged as a natural extension of the rising popularity of denim clothing, as the fabric is often repurposed. Items like denim bags, footwear, belts, hats, and even glasses have long been a part of the fashion industry, with luxury brands frequently including them in fashion shows and collections.

Denim accessories are versatile and accessible, much like the fabric itself, allowing for a wide range of styling options. You can create a head-to-toe denim look by mixing various shades of indigo or different weights of denim or opt for a tone-on-tone style. Alternatively, you can use denim accessories to add a pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit, such as breaking up a total black ensemble.

Blue Ranch’s duffel bags and beauty cases are designed to complement any outfit, whether you’re heading for a relaxing weekend in the mountains or embarking on a road trip abroad. Don’t forget your customized travel items to express your unique style wherever you go!
