The Cradle to Cradle product standard evaluates an organization’s environmental and social performance across five categories: material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness.
Material health
The material health category ensures products contain chemicals that are as safe as possible for humans and the environment. Designers and product developers are led through a process of inventorying, assessing, and optimizing material chemistry.
Product circularity
The product circularity category aims to reduce waste, evaluating if products can remain in a perpetual cycle of use and reuse.
Clean air and climate protection
The clean air and climate protection category ensures products are manufactured using renewable energy, reducing or eliminating their climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions.
Water and soil stewardship
The water and soil stewardship category ensures water is recognized as a valuable resource, watersheds are protected, clean water is available to people and all the other living beings, and healthy soils are safeguarded.
