We are pleased to announce the release of our updated Sustainability Report, which outlines Candiani’s performance and initiatives related to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects in 2023. Below are some key highlights.

Energy efficiency and emissions reduction

Energy efficiency has become a central focus for both our internal teams and external stakeholders. We have made significant strides in reducing installed thermal power. Specifically, we have decreased our thermal power plants for steam production from 24 MW to 16 MW. This change has allowed Candiani to improve our atmospheric emissions performance, thanks to more efficient boilers. Additionally, we have exited the scope of the Emissions Trading Directive, which previously imposed restrictions based on our installed energy capacity. Overall, these interventions have streamlined our operations, ensuring greater production flexibility in a more sustainable manner, which is essential for maintaining our competitive position in the market.

Responsible sourcing and transparent supply chain

In 2023, we remained committed to responsible sourcing. We evaluated 204 suppliers based on quality, environmental impact, safety, and social responsibility. For some suppliers, we conducted on-site second-party audits to verify their working conditions. This commitment is essential for maintaining business continuity and managing reputational risks, ensuring that our supply chain complies with current regulations while also being sustainable and transparentOur company is dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and traceability of the entire supply chain’s performance, which will contribute to a better understanding of each product’s environmental life cycle. By doing so, we aim to increase the trust of our customers, as well as their customers and stakeholders, thereby reinforcing our focus on sustainabilityRegarding supplier assessments, all suppliers are required to sign our code of conduct. Chemical suppliers must also comply with the ZDHC MRSL, which outlines a list of chemicals harmful to the environment and human health that are forbidden in production processes, as well as the Levi’s® RSL, which lists prohibited chemicals.

Inclusive work environment

From a social responsibility perspective, we are increasingly dedicated to enhancing and expanding our efforts to make a significant impact within our organization, the broader community, and the entire industry. In 2023, we confirmed one of our most significant milestones: the number of female employees (288) surpassing the number of male employees (281), marking a substantial step towards fostering a more inclusive and diverse workforce. In terms of contract types, the number of permanent positions rose from 490 in 2022 to 548 in 2023, with 278 of those positions held by women. As of December 31, 2023, our total employee count was 569, including seven individuals from outside the EU, which represents an increase compared to previous years. Finally, regarding age distribution, the personnel at Candiani at the end of 2023 demonstrated an increase in average age, indicating a higher level of experience and product knowledge among our staff.
