We’re excited to introduce the Primo Jean, a wardrobe staple you’ll cherish for years to come. Through our Candiani Custom & Standards project, we aim to deliver the full value of our Italian supply chain, which we meticulously oversee at every step. With over 85 years of experience in the denim industry, we’re committed to providing you with everything we have learned. Let’s explore the reasons behind the creation of our jeans and why they are essential for your wardrobe.
Why did we name it the Primo Jean?
We chose to name our garment the Primo Jean for several reasons:
- In Italian, “Primo” means “first.” This is our first jean that we are selling outside our micro-factory in Milan, where we produce made-to-measure garments.
- Primo was the second generation of the Candiani family to run the mill. He firmly believed in denim’s potential and verticalized its production, starting with cotton.
- The regular fit is an essential model that every denim lover should have in their wardrobe; it’s the first style to consider for your closet.
- The straight-leg cut is most similar to the first pair of blue jeans patented by Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis in 1873.

Why should everyone have a regular-fit jean?
Regular-fit jeans are a timeless staple in fashion, beloved by people of all generations. They maintain a consistent width from the hip to the ankle, offering great comfort and freedom of movement while presenting a polished, balanced appearance.
These jeans are among the most inclusive and versatile garments, appealing to men and women alike. Their blend of style, comfort, and adaptability allows them to complement any body type. Regular-fit jeans can be paired with a variety of other clothing items and accessories, making them suitable for both casual everyday looks and more formal occasions when styled appropriately.
Because of these unique qualities, your regular-fit jeans can last for decades. Their appeal remains unchanged over time and may even grow stronger. Remember, investing in high-quality jeans is worthwhile, as denim is the only fabric that becomes more beautiful with age, adapting uniquely to the wearer.

Why do they look like the first pair of blue jeans?
Strauss and Davis designed their trousers to endure manual labor in the United States at the end of the 19th century, focusing on functionality and durability. Their patent emphasized the use of copper rivets and reinforced seams to protect the more vulnerable areas of the pants from wear and tear, rather than on their fit. However, while there were minor variations in the cut, the first versions of blue jeans featured a straight leg to allow for ease of movement and to accommodate wearing work boots underneath.
Jeans were primarily regular-fit for their first century, as they were mainly associated with workwear until the end of World War II. In the 1950s and 1960s, they began to gain popularity as a fashion item, largely due to actors like James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Marilyn Monroe. Jeans became a symbol of the new youth culture that sought to distance itself from the establishment.
However, the introduction of stretch fabrics at the end of the 1970s was the real game-changer for the industry, significantly expanding the range of available fits. Traditional 100% cotton denim was not suitable for creating tight-fitting garments that accentuated the body shape. Still, new fabrics incorporating elastane enabled designers to craft more feminine silhouettes. As a result, jeans became one of the most sought-after garments in the world and a luxury item featured in the collections of the most prestigious brands.

Why choose our jeans?
With over 85 years of experience in the denim industry, we have selected the best fit to offer: well-designed, versatile, and timeless regular-fit jeans featuring the traditional five-pocket design and made from the most refined Candiani fabrics favored by premium and luxury brands.
Our denim isn’t just any jeans; it represents the most classic, enduring, and done right model to ensure high quality. From selecting the finest cotton seeds to the final sewing process, we oversee every step of production within a short supply chain, minimizing our environmental impact.
All our garments are made in Italy, in a region renowned for its rich textile tradition. The knowledge and skills related to this craft have been passed down through generations, allowing the area to preserve this heritage and its quality. Additionally, Italy adheres to strict environmental and social standards, so you can be confident in what you wear.

Why should you focus on the fabric?
Since 1938, we have been producing fabrics that blend tradition with sustainable innovation. Our denim is celebrated for combining the fabric’s original aesthetic and historical character with the refined tastes of the fashion industry, while maintaining a high level of eco-friendliness. For instance, our Candiani Custom&Standards features denim made with 40% post-industrial recycled cotton sourced from unavoidable production waste.
As we have done with the fit, we have decided to offer refined washes and timeless colors that you will love for years to come. You can choose from various shades of classic indigo, which has always been a hallmark of denim, or opt for sophisticated black, one of Candiani’s signature colors. Additionally, we offer a fresh ecru, the natural color of cotton, which can be overdyed or further bleached. We also provide a selection of selvedge fabrics, the most traditional type of denim, woven on classic shuttle looms to create the distinctive edge that makes them particularly desirable among denim enthusiasts.
Fabric is the main ingredient in jeans; that’s why it deserves the utmost attention. High-quality denim ensures that your garment lasts long, becoming even more beautiful over time as it molds to your body and develops a unique fade that reflects your personal habits, effectively telling your story.
