A (COREVA™) night to remember

Last November, we had the opportunity to host a dinner with a group of remarkable guests, allowing us to showcase our innovative tomato sauce made from COREVA™ denim offcuts. While we recognize that our innovations can sometimes be intricate and challenging to understand for those not directly involved in our industry, we are committed to bridging this gap. By developing projects that connect our work to everyday life, we aim to make our advancements more accessible and relevant to a broader audience.

The tomato sauce project

Our partnership with Quintosapore bridged the gap between fashion and food through the use of regenerative agriculture techniques. Located in Umbria, Quintosapore is an innovative farming project that cultivated tomatoes in soil enhanced with leftover materials from the COREVA™ denim fabric recycling process.

Our patent COREVA™ represents our commitment to sustainability as the world’s first plastic-free and compostable stretch denim. We are redefining the fashion industry’s environmental impact by replacing traditional synthetic petroleum-based elastic fibers with a core of natural rubber. Prior to our collaboration with Quintosapore, we conducted thorough testing of COREVA™ fabrics with Innovhub to confirm that their scraps can effectively support plant growth and germination. Additionally, our work with the Rodale Institute California Organic Center has demonstrated the potential for growing cotton from old denim, fostering a circular approach in fashion.

Throughout our pilot project with Quintosapore, we engaged the Italian chemistry lab Ars Chimica Laboratorio Chimico to monitor the soil before, during, and after plant growth. Their analysis compared soil samples with and without COREVA™ to assess changes in chemical composition, heavy materials, colorants, and overall soil health.

The results of these tests were promising, showing that the addition of COREVA™ denim did not negatively impact the soil’s chemical makeup. Moreover, the farmers at Quintosapore observed consistent moisture levels, a finding that aligns with observations from our prior work with the Rodale Institute. This indicates that COREVA™ could play a significant role in improving water retention in soil, contributing positively to sustainable farming practices.

Our pilot project with Quintosapore received an exciting spotlight at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards (GCFA) in Los Angeles in March 2024. Supermodel Amber Valletta captivated guests by introducing a unique culinary experience featuring pasta seasoned with a sauce crafted from tomatoes cultivated using COREVA™. Additionally, Valletta wore a stunning bespoke dress designed by Triarchy, skillfully made from COREVA™ denim.

Our COREVA™ dinner in Milan

We are dedicated to sharing our innovations with the broadest audience possible, channeling the same disruptive energy that fuels our R&D projects. Our mission is to create ideas that are not only easy to understand and remember but also compelling to share. We focus on generating value throughout both the development process and in our final products. Equally important is ensuring this value is communicated effectively and resonates with our audience.

We recognize the powerful connection people have with food, as it is an experience we engage with daily and hold dear. In light of the recent GCFA, we hosted a dinner in Milan, bringing together guests from the fashion and food industries, as well as journalists. This gathering allowed attendees to savor a variety of delectable dishes, thoughtfully prepared and presented by Chef Eugenio Roncoroni, Cristina Giordano, and their outstanding team, which featured tomatoes cultivated from COREVA™ denim offcuts.

Behind the scenes of our dinner

“I’ve been hearing a lot about the circular economy and sustainable supply chains lately, but it’s not often you get to see these concepts in action. Candiani’s partnership with the Quintosapore farm is a real-world example, and we all got to see—and even taste—the full biodegradability of COREVA™ denim firsthand. It’s proof that it’s possible to have a truly zero impact on our planet.”

Elena Goretti, Freelance Journalist and Communication Specialist

Eating tomatoes fertilized with COREVA™, essentially with denim, is a tangible experience that shows us that change is happening. Giving back to the earth is the goal of any sustainable business, and if it’s the same resource, like cotton, that’s being returned, then we’re no longer taking from the earth, but borrowing from it.”

Elena Gogna, LifeGate

The fusion of Candiani’s heritage and the passion of the Quintosapore team is truly inspiring. They’ve shared fascinating insights with me and given me a lot to ponder. Alberto’s tribute to his visionary father was a lovely touch.”

Cristiano Zanni, Hubstyle

“A truly fascinating experience, showcasing an exceptional ability to combine manufacturing with environmental sustainability. It’s a surprising new chapter in the story of Made in Italy, one that values the local area while also prioritizing quality and sustainability. The urban boutique factory in the heart of Milan is worth a closer look.”

Mario Cinelli, Deputy Assistant Director Io Donna

“A wonderful evening filled with a relaxed atmosphere and innovative ideas. The perfect setting to celebrate a truly unique fabric and fiber. With a stunning location, exquisite food and drinks, and a live cooking show, the event was full of surprises. The video and speeches provided a clear and compelling overview of a project that is not only practical but also deeply meaningful, as it focuses on protecting our planet.”

Maria Cristina Pavarini, Spin Off

It was an evening filled with flavor, as round and complete as a tomato or the circularity of denim. It takes visionaries who care about the future to blend lifestyle, agriculture, and sustainability so seamlessly. The challenge was to regenerate, and yesterday, Candiani and Quintosapore showed us the way. They proved that regeneration can be as delicious as it is meaningful.”
