The denim industry is exploring natural fiber blends, and we are no exception, as recent technological advancements allow textile producers to move beyond traditional cotton yarns to gain additional benefits. After introducing lightweight linen-blended denim fabrics for summer, we are now launching wool-cotton fabrics for the colder season.
What’s wool-blended denim?
Denim has traditionally been made entirely from cotton. However, alternative fiber blends are becoming increasingly popular in the industry due to their added benefits. In summer, we introduced lightweight linen-cotton denim fabrics to help manage rising temperatures. Now, we have developed a special seasonal denim collection that blends cotton with Merino wool, providing thermal insulation and other advantages for the colder season.
Our wool-cotton fabrics incorporate Woolmark-certified Merino wool in the weft, resulting in a composition of 35% wool and 65% cotton. They are woven using a 2x1 structure, meaning there are two warp threads for every one weft thread on the fabric’s front. The warp consists of regenerative cotton certified by regenagri®.
About regenerative cotton
Regenerative cotton is cultivated using practices designed to enhance soil health, restore the planet’s natural functions, and rebalance ecosystems. While these farming techniques may vary based on soil characteristics, biological dynamics, and climate conditions, there are some common practices. These include planting cover crops to protect and enrich the soil, practicing crop rotation to maintain or improve soil fertility, and minimizing or eliminating mechanical tillage, which can damage beneficial soil microorganisms.
Healthy fields reduce soil erosion, require less water, and are more resilient to both floods and droughts. They also store more carbon dioxide in the ground and yield better harvests. Furthermore, these practices lead to stronger, healthier crops that are more resistant to weeds and pests, thus requiring less chemical fertilizer. As a result, regenerative agriculture promotes greater biodiversity both above and below the surface, improves financial profitability, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, mitigates climate change, and enhances the cycles of hydrogen, carbon, and nutrients. Additionally, regenerative agriculture emphasizes results rather than applying uniform standards worldwide, leading to a more farmer-friendly and scalable approach.

The benefits of Merino wool
Merino wool is an exceptional natural fiber celebrated for its unique structure, which provides outstanding softness, breathability, durability, and versatility. It is regarded as the finest and softest type of wool, making it a popular choice for luxury clothing, high-performance sportswear, and garments worn next to the skin.
Merino wool is highly valued for several reasons:
- Eco-friendly: Merino wool is a biodegradable, renewable fiber sourced from Australian sheep that shed their fleece annually. When it is no longer needed, it naturally decomposes back into the soil, enriching it with nutrients.
- Elastic and wrinkle-resistant: The fibers of Merino wool are coiled like springs, offering greater flexibility than cotton. This allows the fabric to stretch gently and regain its shape after bending, resulting in fewer creases in your clothing and a more polished appearance.
- Soft and comfortable: Merino wool fibers are incredibly fine, making them soft against the skin. They stretch with your movements and return to their original form, ensuring comfort throughout the day.
- Breathable: Merino wool effectively manages moisture vapor, helping to regulate your body’s microclimate. It absorbs moisture and releases it into the air, keeping you comfortable.
- Odor- and stain-resistant: Due to its moisture-managing properties, Merino wool can absorb odor molecules, reducing the likelihood of unwanted smells. This feature helps you stay fresher for longer, even during vigorous activities. Furthermore, wool’s unique surface characteristics allow it to repel dirt and liquid stains more effectively than other fibers.
- Temperature regulation: Merino wool naturally adapts to your body temperature, keeping you warm in cold conditions and cooler in hot ones. By incorporating wool into the weft yarns, the wool is positioned on the inner side of the fabric, enhancing warmth in colder seasons and providing a cushion against the initial chill when wearing conventional jeans.
